6 jailed, 1 fined for breaching curfew in Point Fortin

A 19-year-old man was among six men who were jailed while an­oth­er was fined and a woman grant­ed bail for breach­ing the cur­few.

They all ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly be­fore Point Fortin mag­is­trate Ali­cia Chankar yes­ter­day.

Josi­ah Bai­ley, 19, of Chin Yan­kee Street, who was ar­rest­ed along Fan­ny Vil­lage Main Road near E Street Junc­tion around 4.50pm on Cor­pus Christi was jailed for three months. A po­lice re­lease said that oth­ers jailed were:

Clive Alexan­der—six months’ hard labour

Ja­mal Bai­ley, 22,—three months hard labour

Shur­land Liv­er­pool—three months’ hard labour

Ka­reem Flem­ming—three months’ hard labour

Avasi Pe­ters, 37,—three months’ hard labour

Dav­e­nand Har­ri­nar­ine, 44, was fined $10,000. Fail­ure to pay the fine will re­sult in him be­ing jailed for a month. Shan­ti Charles plead­ed not guilty and that mat­ter has been ad­journed.

The were held by of­fi­cers of the South-West­ern Di­vi­sion (SWD), in­clud­ing the Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice, who were con­duct­ing ex­er­cis­es through­out sev­er­al com­mu­ni­ties dur­ing the cur­few pe­ri­od yes­ter­day.

The Po­lice Ser­vice is re­mind­ing the pub­lic of its role in re­duc­ing the spread of the COVID-19 virus by ad­her­ing to the Pub­lic Health and State of Emer­gency Reg­u­la­tions.
