A search is un­der­way for a 73-year-old New Grant man who drowned at Ma­yaro beach on Mon­day.

The vic­tim, Fa­reed Ali Kas­sim, of Red Road, New Grant, went to In­di­an Bay, Stone­bright, with his friend Farouk Mo­hammed.

They stayed in the wa­ter for about 30 min­utes and came out. Short­ly af­ter Mo­hammed went back in­to the sea, leav­ing Kas­sim on the shore.

When he came out, oth­er sea bathers told him that Kas­sim re-en­tered the wa­ter and dis­ap­peared. Ma­yaro po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
