The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) is monitoring an active Tropical Wave in the Central Tropical Atlantic, approximately 2,300 kilometres east of the Southern Windward islands.
The system currently has a low chance, between 10 and 30 per cent, of developing into a Tropical Cyclone over the next two to seven days. The wave is moving westward at 24 to 32 kilometres per hour and is expected to pass over the Southern Windward islands later this weekend.
The TTMS warned that, regardless of development, the wave will bring increased rainfall across portions of the Southern Windwards. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to begin in Trinidad and Tobago late Saturday, with periods of heavy rainfall likely to continue into Monday as the system moves across the islands.
“There are currently no watches or warnings in effect for Trinidad and Tobago,” the TTMS said. The agency added it will continue to monitor the wave and issue relevant weather alerts when necessary, providing further details on the onset of any impactful weather.
