For almost two hours, guests have been waiting for the swearing-in ceremony for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Aldermen of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation to begin. Among them, Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein.
This morning's proceeding was carded to begin at 9 a.m. however, up to 10:44 a.m. it had not started.
CNC3 News was told an administrative glitch prompted the delay.
PNM Councillor for Edingurgh/Longdenville South, Janelle Joe-Ryan told us no invitations were sent to the PNM Aldermen or herself. While she is in attendance after hearing from "the grapevine" about this morning's event, Joe-Ryan claimed her colleague did not, as such she was a "no-show".
The presence of the PNM Alderman, who has not yet been announced, is needed to vote for the appointment of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
After several phone calls and pleas, the PNM Alderman, who was at her Port of Spain workplace at the time, will attend.
Also a no-show this morning was outgoing Mayor Gopaul Boodhan. No reason was given for his absence.
Councillor Joe-Ryan told CNC3 News she was disappointed about what transpired and did not want to think invitations were deliberately not sent to the only two PNM persons at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation.
The Corporation has until midnight to complete its swearing-in ceremony.
