The current Adverse Weather Alert/YELLOW Level has been extended to 4:00 pm on Thursday 28 October 2021, with cloudy but mostly settled conditions expected to continue as the afternoon progresses.  That’s according to the latest advisory from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS).

Trinidad and Tobago, including offshore areas of both islands, will continue to be under the YELLOW Level alert, as there is a medium to high (60-70%) chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms of varying intensities, to develop after midnight into tomorrow.

According to forecasters at the Met Service, activity is forecast to peak during the morning period on Thursday, but isolated impactful rainfall can occur during the afternoon. Gusty winds in excess of 45km/hr are possible in heavier showers/thunderstorms. Additional rainfall will further exacerbate areas already inundated especially along smaller rivers.

The Met Service warns that smaller water courses can become overwhelmed and spill over onto surrounding environs. Localized flooding and ponding can cause temporary traffic disruptions and landslips are possible in areas so prone. In addition, gusty winds can lead to loose/unsecured items being displaced as well as further agitation of sea conditions

The Met Service says the public SHOULD NOT wade or drive through flood waters. Also, it is advising residents along riverbanks to be on the alert and take the necessary precautions to preserve life and property.

Members of the public are encouraged to monitor weather conditions and official updates especially via www.metoffice.gov.tt/ and www.odpm.gov.tt, as well as follow the instructions of government officials.
