Cricket West Indies has announced a 15-member squad for the T20 International series against Nepal, scheduled to take place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates from September 27 to 30.
The series is historic as it marks the first bilateral T20 series between the two teams and will be played outside of the International Cricket Council’s Future Tours Programme. It has been identified by selectors as an opportunity to introduce new players to international competition in preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be held in subcontinent conditions.
Selectors have included several players who performed in the inaugural West Indies Breakout League and the current Caribbean Premier League. Six potential debutants are part of the squad. At the same time, a number of senior players have been rested.
Akeal Hosein, a member of the T20I leadership group, has been appointed captain. The Team Management Unit will be led by Head Coach Rayon Griffith. Former West Indies Head Coach Ottis Gibson will serve as fast-bowling consultant.
The series in Sharjah will serve as part of the team’s preparation pathway for global competition. Cricket West Indies stated that the series was scheduled with development in mind, giving younger players exposure to international conditions.
The squad is expected to assemble ahead of the start of the series in the United Arab Emirates.
