Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander met on Tuesday with representatives from US-based security firm Guidepost Solutions to explore opportunities for strengthening Trinidad and Tobago’s protective services.
Speaking with Guardian Media after the meeting at his Temple Court office in Port of Spain, Alexander said the focus was on improving coordination across the country’s law enforcement arms and upgrading the state’s digital security response.
“These gentlemen offer a whole list of technical assistance to the TT Police Service, our Immigration Service, the Prison Service and our Fire Service,” he said. “They’ve outlined a list of activities we can incorporate to interconnect our services because we are looking to go digital.”
The meeting included Guidepost Solutions president Louis Milione, a former deputy administrator of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), who said the company aims to help T&T break down silos within its agencies and map threat networks more effectively.
Milione said the discussion also covered ways to support local authorities in countering drug and arms trafficking. “That’s certainly something we discussed with the Minister—how you identify the networks and attack the networks, working with all the authorities in T&T and all counterparts here in T&T,” he said.
