Po­lice in­ves­ti­gat­ing this week's ma­jor gun haul at a Cen­tral Ware­house be­lieve they may have a lead in the in­ves­ti­ga­tions and say an ar­rest will soon be made.

A po­lice source con­firmed to Guardian Me­dia that when de­tained, the per­son will be able to as­sist in their in­ves­ti­ga­tion to en­sure a fur­ther ma­jor break­through on the ex­act US ori­gin of the large cache of arms and am­mu­ni­tion, as well as for whom it was des­tined and its pur­pose.

Lo­cal po­lice of­fi­cers con­tin­ue to part­ner with for­eign in­tel­li­gence agen­cies with re­gards to this week’s haul, along with last week's ma­jor find at the Pi­ar­co Bond.

On Mon­day, po­lice raid­ed Med­way Lim­it­ed's ware­house at For­sis Com­plex in Cou­va and dis­cov­ered sev­er­al guns and a large quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion of var­i­ous cal­i­bres.

At the Po­lice Ser­vice me­dia brief­ing on Wednes­day, Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice, Gary Grif­fith, ad­mit­ted to be­ing con­cerned about the re­cent in­tel­li­gence led op­er­a­tions that re­cov­ered a large cache of high-pow­ered weapons and am­mu­ni­tion at the Bond in Pi­ar­co and at the Cou­va ware­house.

Grif­fith said al­most on a dai­ly ba­sis, his of­fi­cers face the types of weapons found and seized while per­form­ing their du­ties.

"Once in every four days, a po­lice of­fi­cer is shot at. Six of­fi­cers be­ing killed over the last three years... Those same weapons were found in an at­mos­phere where there were 114 death threats against po­lice of­fi­cers over the last 30 months, in­clud­ing 33 made against me and my rel­a­tives. Sev­en were made against the head of the Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Re­sponse Team—then In­spec­tor Mark Her­nan­dez—and 74 were made on of­fi­cers in the ex­e­cu­tion of their du­ties," the top cop re­vealed.

“When it comes to armed con­flict against crim­i­nal el­e­ments, where they have weapons of war to cause death and may­hem, my con­cept of diplo­ma­cy is to fire back with equal and more ac­cu­rate force, with­in the law,” Grif­fith said.

Deputy Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice (In­tel­li­gence and In­ves­ti­ga­tions), Mc Don­ald Ja­cob, thanked the var­i­ous units in­volved in the re­cent op­er­a­tions for their con­tin­ued com­mit­ment in rid­ding the streets of these weapons.

“These two re­cent seizures show that weapons and am­mu­ni­tion are com­ing through the le­gal Ports of En­try,” he said.

DCP Ja­cob said with the re­cent for­ma­tion of the Cen­tral In­tel­li­gence Bu­reau (CIB) and with the co­op­er­a­tion of the pub­lic, the TTPS con­tin­ues to con­duct in­tel­li­gence-led ex­er­cis­es through­out the coun­try.
