Relatives of a woman, who was chopped and beaten before her home was torched on Tuesday, are dissatisfied with the police’s attempt at arrest the suspect.
One of Rosey Saunders-Morales’ four daughters, Serayah Saunders, told the T&T Guardian yesterday that there are tell-tale signs that the suspect, a national of Dominican Republic, has been around two homes in the St Helena district.
Saunders said her mother, who remains in hospital following the attack, owns two properties in St Helena and there have been visible signs that someone has been at them.
She said the suspect, a 35-year-old coconut vendor, escaped on a bicycle.
Investigators said they are working on the case and assured that an arrest is imminent and pleaded with relatives to have some patience.
Police reported that the suspect torched the house after chopping and beating Saunders-Morales and beating one of her daughters after an argument over property.
The suspect attacked Saunders-Morales and Shamaryah Saunders, 14, with a cutlass, knives and a hammer following an argument over property which began before 7 am.
The suspect had repeatedly asked for control of the two properties and had threatened to end his own life in the past if he was not given control of them.
Two months ago he sliced his left forearm with a cutlass.
