Trinidad and Tobago’s art community is rallying to support one of its own, as several local artists donate their works for Art Attack—an art auction scheduled for Saturday, October 11, at the 101 Art Gallery in Newtown.
The event aims to raise funds for acclaimed painter Peter Sheppard’s medical expenses, following an emergency late last month.
Among the donated pieces is Submarine Battle, a striking painting by visual artist Camille Borde. The piece captures a moment of tension between a turtle and a jellyfish, rendered with fine detail and emotional depth—hallmarks of Borde’s expressive realism.
The exhibition will also feature a collection of Sheppard’s own works, known for their intricate detail and vivid colour. His paintings reflect the influence of his parents, both carnival costume designers and acrylic painters, whose creative energy shaped his artistic journey. Working primarily in acrylic on both miniature and large scales, Sheppard’s compositions are celebrated for their rhythm, balance, and dreamlike quality.
Sheppard’s talent has earned him international acclaim, including membership in the United Kingdom-based Hilliard Society of Miniature Painters and Engravers, and the Best in Show Award in 2013. His works are held in collections locally and abroad.
Art Attack promises to be both a showcase of Trinidad and Tobago’s artistic talent and a demonstration of solidarity within the creative community. The auction runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and proceeds will go directly toward Sheppard’s medical care.
