The autopsy on 56-year-old Shashi Boodram, who was found dead at his workplace in Claxton Bay last week, revealed that he was severely beaten before he was strangled and smothered to death.
The exact cause of death was listed as asphyxia, ligature strangulation and smothering, and blunt force injuries to the body.
The findings further added to the grief and anguish the watchman’s family has been experiencing, since his battered body was found at Central Concrete Products Ltd on August 7.
His body was discovered by a colleague around 6.20 am last Wednesday ,as he arrived for work.
Boodram was found lying on the ground in a room with a towel wrapped around his face and neck.
He had been living at his workplace, which is located within the Plaisance Park Industrial Estate, for the last six years – and was last seen by a co-worker around 3.45 am on August 6.
Boodram’s niece Seema Mangroo spoke with reporters at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday.
She described her uncle as a “real nice person.”
“He drink, he smoke, but he never harass nobody.”
Mangroo said they were hurting, as he did not deserve the death he suffered.
She said the family last saw and spoke with Boodram on August 4, when he visited them and then he left to return to the place where he worked and lived.
Mangroo said he was respected by the owner of the company, who had treated him well and often dropped off food daily for him.
She said there was no reason for the family to suspect Boodram was ever in danger.
She said crime was out of control.
“It is way, way out of hand but as for my uncle, he did not deserve to die like that, no matter what type of person he is.”
