A one-year-old baby is in stable condition after he was hit by a stray bullet in his El Socorro home on Monday night.
Police said the child's father was in the yard supervising his two other children who were playing around 9:50 pm, while the mother was in the kitchen.
Both parents heard several gunshots and on checking saw the baby bleeding and crying.
The parents called to a neighbour for help who then called an ambulance which took the child to hospital.
Sources said the child was shot in the thigh which exited through the buttocks.
The baby was treated and is in stable condition.
Police from the Barataria CID visited the scene and learned that a gunman was seen firing shots before running through a track in the neighbourhood.
Four spent shells were found at the scene.
