The government has failed to pass The Bail Amendment Bill 2022. The government brought the bill to extend the life of the bill for a further year. Under this law, bail is restricted to up to 120 days for repeaters of serious crimes.
When the vote was taken in the Senate a short while ago there were 18 votes for, 11 against and 1 senator abstained. Therefore the bill was not passed and will no longer be law as of August 5.
