Police expect to question and charge a 58-year-old Chaguanas man who attempted to rob two supermarket employees at knifepoint in Kelly Village on Friday night.

They said the supervisor and packer were locking up the business place on Caroni South Bank Road at 7.55 pm when a man holding a knife confronted them and demanded their valuables.

Both workers called for help while the 22-year-old packer struggled with the bandit.

A nearby security guard intervened and helped subdue the man as he tried to escape.

Police took the suspect to the Caroni Police Station, where he remained up to Saturday morning.
