A bandit who attempted to rob an Arouca man who was stuck in traffic in east Port-of-Spain on Thursday afternoon, managed to narrowly escape being shot by the licensed firearm holder.
The 52-year-old victim was driving his black Nissan Navara south along Piccadilly Street around 12.40 pm when he came to a stop a short distance away from the intersection of Duke Street and Calvary Hill, East Dry River.
As the traffic stalled, the driver observed the suspect in his right wing mirror, in a crouched position as he walked alongside the truck.
It is alleged that as the suspect stopped next to the driver’s door, he reached inside and attempted to grab the victim’s gold bracelet.
As the victim began struggling with the suspect, he managed to retrieve his licensed Glock 19 pistol and fired a single shot in the suspect’s direction, causing the man to run towards Calvary Hill.
