Officers of the North-Central Division captured a bandit minutes after he reportedly robbed the El Dorado outlet of KFC on Monday morning.
Sources said that Tunapuna Police received a report of a robbery in progress at the fast-food outlet on the Eastern Main Road, El Dorado, at around 8:15 am, and went to the scene.
Officers were told the bandit, who was armed with a gun, was wearing a black fisherman’s hat, green reflective vest, and a white face mask.
On approaching the business place, officers saw a man matching a description of the bandit entering a maxi taxi on the Priority Bus Route.
Police followed the maxi taxi and intercepted it. The bandit ran out of the vehicle and threw away the pistol.
Officers caught up to him and arrested him.
He was found with a quantity of money and a Night and Day Deposit bag for Sports and Games.
He was also found with a grinder power tool.
Police said the arrest was part of heightened patrols and police activity in the North-Central Division led by Snr Supt Vernly Gift and ASP Sunil Bharath.
