RHONDOR DOWLAT
An armed bandit who announced a robbery at a primary school after hours on Tuesday night got an unexpected turn of events when he was shot and wounded by a parent.
Police said around 9 pm, the parent, a member of the Seereeram Memorial Vedic Primary School in Chaguanas, was at the school assisting with installing an air-conditioned unit when the gunman entered the compound and the classroom where the installation was taking place and announced a robbery.
There was a struggle during which the parent, the holder of a licensed firearm, drew his weapon and shot the bandit.
The suspect fled the school, dropped his gun on the floor, and collapsed on the road outside.
The police were called in and he was taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where he was treated and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex under police guard.
Investigations are continuing into the incident.
