An armed bandit who announced a robbery at a primary school after hours on Tuesday night got an unexpected response, when he was shot and wounded by a parent.
Police said at about 9 pm, the parent a of pupil of the Seereeram Memorial Vedic Primary School in Chaguanas, was at the school assisting with installing an air-conditioning unit ahead of yesterday’s SEA exam when the gunman entered the compound and classroom where the installation was taking place and announced a robbery.
There was a struggle and the parent, the holder of a licensed firearm, drew his weapon and shot the bandit.
The suspect fled the school, dropping his gun on the floor, but collapsed on the road outside.
The police were called in and he was taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility, where he was treated and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, under police guard. Investigations are continuing into the incident. RHONDOR DOWLAT
