An armed ban­dit who an­nounced a rob­bery at a pri­ma­ry school af­ter hours on Tues­day night got an un­ex­pect­ed re­sponse, when he was shot and wound­ed by a par­ent.

Po­lice said at about 9 pm, the par­ent a of pupil of the Seereer­am Memo­r­i­al Vedic Pri­ma­ry School in Ch­agua­nas, was at the school as­sist­ing with in­stalling an air-con­di­tion­ing unit ahead of yes­ter­day’s SEA ex­am when the gun­man en­tered the com­pound and class­room where the in­stal­la­tion was tak­ing place and an­nounced a rob­bery.

There was a strug­gle and the par­ent, the hold­er of a li­censed firearm, drew his weapon and shot the ban­dit.

The sus­pect fled the school, drop­ping his gun on the floor, but col­lapsed on the road out­side.

The po­lice were called in and he was tak­en to the Ch­agua­nas Dis­trict Health Fa­cil­i­ty, where he was treat­ed and lat­er trans­ferred to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope, un­der po­lice guard. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing in­to the in­ci­dent. RHON­DOR DOWLAT
