Barataria man charged with sexual offence against minor

A 42-year-old man was grant­ed bail in the sum of $80,000 with sure­ty by a Port of Spain Mag­is­trate, on the charge of sex­u­al pen­e­tra­tion of a mi­nor.

An of­fi­cial state­ment from the Po­lice Ser­vice re­ports that the self-em­ployed labour­er of Barataria was charged with the of­fence when he ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Mau­reen Ba­boolal Gafoor, on Mon­day 19 Sep­tem­ber 2022.

The ac­cused was grant­ed bail and or­dered to have no di­rect or in­di­rect con­tact with the vic­tim.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to Oc­to­ber 17, 2022.

Ac­cord­ing to the TTPS re­lease, the vic­tim re­port­ed to her moth­er that a man sex­u­al­ly as­sault­ed her on De­cem­ber 19, 2018.

A re­port was made to the po­lice on that same date and an in­ves­ti­ga­tion was launched in­to the mat­ter.

The ac­cused was ar­rest­ed by of­fi­cers of the Child Pro­tec­tion Unit on Sun­day 18 Sep­tem­ber 2022.  He was charged with the of­fence by WPC Gra­ham on that same date.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions were su­per­vised by W/Supt. Guy-Al­leyne, ASP Theodore-Per­sad, ASP Seecha­ran, In­sp. Lopez, Sgt. David and Cpl (Ag.) Far­rell—all of the CPU.
