The Bankers Association of Trinidad and Tobago (BATT) has announced the appointment of President & Managing Director of Republic Bank Limited, Nigel Baptiste, as its new President, effective August 14, 2025.
Baptiste succeeds Managing Director of Scotiabank, Gayle Pazos, and will serve a two-year term from 2025 to 2027. He previously held the position of President of BATT and has worked in the banking sector for more than three decades.
Baptiste is a graduate of the University of the West Indies where he earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours and a Master of Science in Economics. He also completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School, a Diploma with distinction from the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking in the United States, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in England.
BATT stated that under Baptiste’s leadership, the Association will focus on strengthening capacity for small and medium-sized enterprises and the wider services sector, promoting ease of doing business with an emphasis on customer-centered solutions, and deepening financial education and digital literacy. Special attention will be placed on vulnerable communities, the unbanked, and the underbanked.
The Association expressed gratitude to Pazos for her leadership over the past two years, noting that several initiatives to expand financial inclusion and accessibility were successfully executed under her tenure.
BATT said it is confident that Baptiste will continue to strengthen the financial sector and contribute to national economic growth.
