Belmont family assaulted by men posing as regional health workers

A Bel­mont fam­i­ly, al­ready reel­ing from the death of a rel­a­tive from COVID-19 was sub­ject­ed to even more trau­ma af­ter men pur­port­ing to sani­tise their premis­es, in­stead robbed the fam­i­ly and raped one mem­ber in­stead.

The men posed as health work­ers at­tached to the North West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (NWRHA), with two of them wear­ing per­son­al pro­tec­tive equip­ment to en­hance their ruse.

How­ev­er, when they gained ac­cess to the Bel­mont Cir­cu­lar home and be­gan the process of sani­tis­ing the house, one of the men pulled out a gun and an­nounced a hold-up, de­mand­ing jew­ellery and mon­ey.

They tied up the fam­i­ly, but not be­fore one of the vic­tims was able to send out an emer­gency mes­sage for help.

How­ev­er, while the emer­gency re­sponse teams were on their way, one of the men raped one of the vic­tims.

The men were un­able to es­cape as In­ter-Agency Task Force of­fi­cers ar­rived at the house and ar­rest­ed them.

The three men, aged 22, 25 and 17 from Bournes Road, Care­nage and San­gre Grande re­spec­tive­ly re­main in po­lice cus­tody.

A re­volver was al­so tak­en by po­lice for ev­i­dence.
