A labourer was killed on Monday night whilst at work in Morvant.
Identified only as Christopher, with the aliases “Double O” and “Kojak”, the victim reportedly lived at St Francois Valley Road, Belmont.
Emergency Health Services were alerted to a shooting at Massy Industrial Estate at 7.30 pm on Monday and upon arrival, they were directed by people present to an unfinished concrete house.
Inside, the attendants found the deceased lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen area suffering from gunshot wounds about the body.
Checks revealed no signs of life and the health workers alerted police.
The body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, where an autopsy was expected to be conducted yesterday.
Officials recovered nine spent 9mm shell casings, three live rounds of 9mm ammunition, and three deformed projectiles at the scene.
Initial investigations revealed the deceased was at the house preparing dinner when it was alleged that four gunmen entered the premises and opened fire on him, before fleeing the scene on foot along Comprehensive Road.
The killing was said to have been gang-related.
Three robbers held after shootout with police
Meanwhile, one man was injured while two others were captured during a shootout with police officers following a robbery at Curepe Junction yesterday afternoon.
While the three remained in custody last night, a search was being carried out for a fourth suspect, who escaped after crashing the getaway car.
Police were also looking for a firearm that was reportedly stashed or discarded during the attempt to evade lawmen.
Reports indicate the three suspects entered the Chinese grocery along the Southern Main Road, near Bobby’s Bar, at 1.15 pm.
As one man pointed a firearm at the cashier, the other two suspects allegedly moved through the aisles, taking food items, cigarettes and alcohol.
Before exiting the grocery, the armed bandit reportedly emptied the register of an undisclosed amount of cash before joining his accomplices, as they ran to the waiting car which remained idling on the road.
The victims alerted police, who were on patrol in the area. Officers of the North Central Division Task Force and the St Joseph CID were able to locate the getaway car within minutes of the robbery.
The officers pursued the men along the Eastern Main Road, Mt Hope, in a high-speed chase which ended at Hutton Road. A shootout reportedly occurred between lawmen and the suspects.
Officers said one man was injured during the shootout.
Two others were eventually held by officers in the Mt Hope area, while the driver managed to escape.
The suspects in custody, whose ages ranged from early- to mid-20s, were said to be from the St Joseph and Arima areas.
The injured suspect was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was treated and warded under police guard.
Snr Supt Richard Smith yesterday praised the quick work and the determined efforts by officers to capture the suspects, as he warned people intent on committing crimes to stay out of the jurisdiction.
Insp Green, along with Sgt Peters and officers of the North Central Division Task Force and the St Joseph CID, were responsible for arresting the suspects.
