Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the se­quence of events that led to the bru­tal mur­der of An­dre Charles in Table­land on Tues­day night.

Charles’ body was found by of­fi­cers from the Table­land Po­lice Sta­tion at around 10.26 pm un­der a fruit stall on the Na­pari­ma Ma­yaro Road, Roberts Vil­lage. There were gap­ing wounds, be­lieved to be chop wounds, on his head and neck and his head was al­most sev­ered.

At his home at Roberts Vil­lage, South Trace, Table­land, rel­a­tives de­clined to com­ment on Charles’ death. How­ev­er, res­i­dents in the area said Charlese suf­fered a gun­shot in­jury years ago. He al­so lived in Ari­ma and di­vid­ed his time be­tween the two dis­tricts.

Charles was last seen alive on Tues­day evening lim­ing with two friends and drink­ing pun­cheon at a bar a short dis­tance from where he was mur­dered. He left the bar at around 6.40 pm and went to a shed across the road.

“He does get a lit­tle mis­er­able when he drink, want to ar­gue with peo­ple, but he was not vi­o­lent,” a res­i­dent said.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors will re­view CCTV footage to de­ter­mine what hap­pened af­ter that, who killed Charles and why. Po­lice said he had mat­ters be­fore the court for lar­ce­ny and firearm-re­lat­ed of­fences.

Of­fi­cers from the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion 3 are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
