A 23-year-old man who was reported missing in 2020 was positively identified three years later via DNA results. His body was released to his family last week.
According to a police source, on May 23, 2020, a decomposing body of a man was found at Bridge Road Circular, Mt Hope.
A missing person's report was made by the relatives of Malik Ramsahai (also known as Doobie), in February 2020. According to his relatives, Ramsahai, of La Canoa, Santa Cruz, was last seen on February 6, 2020.
The police source told Guardian Media police suspect that during the period he went missing, Ramsahai was murdered and his body dumped.
When news broke in May 2020 of the discovery of a decomposing body at Bridge Road Circular, Ramsahai's relatives went to the Forensic Science Centre to identify the body. However, because of the advanced state of decomposition it was decided that DNA testing had to be done to confirm the deceased’s identity. An autopsy was conducted, and it revealed that death was due to gunshot injuries to the head.
Three years later, Ramsahai's relatives have received closure and were able to bid their final farewell last Thursday, March 9, with the cremation taking place at the St James Crematorium.
