The T&T Spirit at the Scarborough port this morning

A bomb scare at the port in Scarborough has delayed today's 6.30 am sailing of the T&T Spirit.

Port Authority CEO, Vilma Lewis-Cockburn, confirmed to Guardian Media that someone phoned in the threat at approximately 5:12 am. Fire Services responded and did a security sweep of the vessel, subsequently clearing it for sailing. Boarding was allowed to begin after fire officer checked all the vehicles waiting to go on the vessel.

A passenger on the ferry told Guardian Media people were stranded at the port awaiting word on when the T&T Spirit would sail.

Works Minister Rohan Sinanan, in a telephone interview on CNC3's The Morning Brew, said the bomb scare was an attempt to "destabilise" the seabridge now that the arrival of the Jean de la Valette has brought good news for inter-island travel.
