A four-year-old boy was res­cued af­ter be­com­ing stuck at the top of a Fer­ris wheel at Movi­eTowne on Sun­day evening.

Around 6:25 pm, Melis­sa Tay­lor, 40, of Beetham Gar­dens, took her three chil­dren to the amuse­ment park and be­gan plac­ing them in a Fer­ris wheel pod. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, she had just seat­ed her son Khu­ni Mc­shine when the ride be­gan mov­ing be­fore her oth­er chil­dren were se­cured.

The ride at­ten­dant pressed the emer­gency stop but­ton, but the wheel con­tin­ued to ro­tate. They at­tempt­ed to reach Khu­ni, but their ef­forts were un­suc­cess­ful.

The wheel even­tu­al­ly stopped with Khu­ni alone at the top, clutch­ing the pod door.

Po­lice con­sta­ble Hold­er of the NED Task Force, along with a by­stander iden­ti­fied as Ak­il De Vi­gnes of Co­corite, climbed the struc­ture and safe­ly brought the child back down.

Video of De Vi­gnes’ dar­ing climb and res­cue has been cir­cu­lat­ing on so­cial me­dia, with many prais­ing his self­less act. For his part, he’s re­mained qui­et, on­ly say­ing thank you for the out­pour­ing of sup­port.

Fire of­fi­cers from the Wright­son Road Fire Sta­tion, in­clud­ing of­fi­cer Moreno, re­spond­ed to the scene. Emer­gency Health Ser­vices were con­tact­ed and ex­am­ined Khu­ni, who was found to be un­harmed.

The sit­u­a­tion was brought un­der con­trol; how­ev­er, it is un­clear whether op­er­a­tions con­tin­ued as nor­mal.
