A four-year-old boy was rescued after becoming stuck at the top of a Ferris wheel at MovieTowne on Sunday evening.
Around 6:25 pm, Melissa Taylor, 40, of Beetham Gardens, took her three children to the amusement park and began placing them in a Ferris wheel pod. According to police, she had just seated her son Khuni Mcshine when the ride began moving before her other children were secured.
The ride attendant pressed the emergency stop button, but the wheel continued to rotate. They attempted to reach Khuni, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The wheel eventually stopped with Khuni alone at the top, clutching the pod door.
Police constable Holder of the NED Task Force, along with a bystander identified as Akil De Vignes of Cocorite, climbed the structure and safely brought the child back down.
Video of De Vignes’ daring climb and rescue has been circulating on social media, with many praising his selfless act. For his part, he’s remained quiet, only saying thank you for the outpouring of support.
Fire officers from the Wrightson Road Fire Station, including officer Moreno, responded to the scene. Emergency Health Services were contacted and examined Khuni, who was found to be unharmed.
The situation was brought under control; however, it is unclear whether operations continued as normal.
