A brief power outage affected several areas across Trinidad after a generation unit tripped yesterday afternoon.
Responding to questions from Guardian Media, Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath said he received information that TGU 11, producing 80 megawatts, tripped at 3.27 pm yesterday.
He explained that the under-frequency scheme shed 13 feeders across various parts of the island.
Padarath said five feeders were restored within 22 minutes of the outage, while the remaining eight were restored within 36 minutes.
He added that initial reports pointed to a defective control card as the likely cause of the trip.
“All systems have resumed,” he said in a message sent to Guardian Media at 5.18 pm yesterday.
Reports on social media indicated outages in Central Trinidad, Maraval and parts of Petit Valley.
There were also reports of buildings along St Vincent Street in Port-of-Spain operating on generators, including the Magistrates’ Court, which was without electricity during the outage.
