A Chi­nese busi­ness­man was robbed of $50,000 cash in Curepe on Christ­mas night, af­ter a man broke his car win­dow and snatched two bags from the front seat be­fore run­ning off.

Po­lice said the 35-year-old of Pouchet Street in San Fer­nan­do parked his black Hon­da CR-V in the park­ing lot of Per­sad’s in Curepe, when around 10.20 pm the sus­pect broke the front pas­sen­ger win­dow and re­moved two black bags.

Video footage showed the sus­pect grab­bing the two bags, which con­tained $20,000 and $30,000 in cash, re­spec­tive­ly, along with a car­bon tank val­ued at $5,000.

And in a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, a short dis­tance away on Box­ing Day, a rob­bery was re­port­ed at the Massy Stores in St Au­gus­tine.

Po­lice said an em­ploy­ee re­port­ed that around 3.45 am on De­cem­ber 26, sur­veil­lance footage cap­tured the sus­pect cut­ting a hole in the glass pan­el at the front of the store. Fol­low­ing checks, it was dis­cov­ered that two cas­es of al­co­holic bev­er­ages val­ued at $500 were miss­ing. —ALP
