The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service seized more than $1.3 million worth of cannabis and a firearm during an anti-crime operation in Cunupia on Friday.
According to a TTPS media release, officers carried out the intelligence-led exercise under the 2026 State of Emergency Regulations as part of ongoing operations targeting narcotics trafficking, gang violence, illegal firearms and organised criminal activity in Central Division.
Police said officers conducted surveillance and search operations at a house along Rasheed Avenue, Munroe Road, Cunupia, around 8 am after receiving intelligence.
During the exercise, officers detained a 31-year-old taxi driver, who allegedly led investigators to crocus bags hidden inside an abandoned structure near the property.
Police said the search resulted in the seizure of 187 kilogrammes of cannabis and 187 trafficking packets of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $1,309,000.
Officers also seized a Glock 19 pistol and 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The suspect was arrested and cautioned for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a firearm without a firearm user’s licence, and possession of ammunition without a firearm user’s licence.
The operation involved officers from the Cunupia Police Station, Caroni CID, K-9 Unit and Central Division Task Force Area North.
DCP Operations Suzette Martin led the exercise, which ACP Anthony Remy, Senior Superintendent Rudolph Bhagwandeen, Superintendent Glodon and ASP Hosein coordinated. ASP Mark Hernandez, Acting Inspector Rampersad and Sgt Harriot supervised the operation.
Investigations are continuing.
