Car rammed, driver robbed of $35,000 after stopping to inspect vehicle

A San­ta Cruz man was robbed of $35,000 in cash af­ter ban­dits rammed his car on the Port-of-Spain Fly­over, forc­ing him to pull over.

Po­lice said the man, of La Canoa Road, San­ta Cruz, was dri­ving his Nis­san Syl­phy north across the fly­over lead­ing off the Beetham High­way at 4.40 pm on Tues­day, when the car be­hind ran in­to him.

Pulling to the side, he got out to in­spect the dam­age to the rear of the car, leav­ing his 36-year-old friend seat­ed in the pas­sen­ger seat.

It was re­port­ed that two men emerged from the sec­ond car, with one of them as­sault­ing the dri­ver while the sec­ond man at­tacked the male pas­sen­ger who had re­mained in the car.

The sus­pects lat­er searched the vic­tim’s car and took an en­ve­lope con­tain­ing $35,000 in cash from un­der the dri­ver’s seat be­fore speed­ing off.— An­na Lisa Paul
