A 35-year-old Carapo man is the first person murdered during the State of Emergency.
Police said Ryan Barath of Church Street was shot once in the head.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 12:48 am and found Barath. He was taken to the Arima Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police said around 12:30 am, Barath had gone outside to move his white Nissan Navara when a single gunshot was heard.
No motive has been given for his killing.
Barath was murdered within 24 hours of the country entering a State of Emergency, declared to combat a threat involving a criminal syndicate.
According to police, the plot was organised by inmates at the Maximum Security Prison with help from criminals outside, including individuals connected to arms of national security.
