The Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty (CARI­COM) said it has not­ed with deep con­cern the re­port that the Sun Au­to Car Deal­er­ship in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, owned and op­er­at­ed by the Hon­orary Con­sul for our Mem­ber State, Ja­maica, and which hous­es the Con­sulate, was set ablaze and ran­sacked by crim­i­nal gangs on Mon­day 12 June 2023.

In a state­ment, CARI­COM said this act of vi­o­lence has sad­ly caused the in­def­i­nite sus­pen­sion of con­sular ser­vices of­fered by the Gov­ern­ment of Ja­maica.

"CARI­COM strong­ly con­demns this and oth­er such acts which cause dam­age to prop­er­ty and peo­ple," it said.

It added that the Con­fer­ence of Heads of Gov­ern­ment of CARI­COM re­mained deeply com­mit­ted to on­go­ing di­a­logue and oth­er ef­forts to­wards a Hait­ian-led so­lu­tion to the on­go­ing cri­sis in our sis­ter coun­try, Haiti.
