CARICOM trade and economic ministers to meet

Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty (CARI­COM) trade and eco­nom­ic de­vel­op­ment min­is­ters will meet lat­er this month, the Guyana-based CARI­COM Sec­re­tari­at has an­nounced.

It said that the No­vem­ber 27-28 min­is­te­r­i­al meet­ing will be chaired by An­tigua and Bar­bu­da’s Trade Min­is­ter Ever­ly Paul Chet Greene and that se­nior trade of­fi­cials from the re­gion have ad­vanced prepa­ra­tion for the 59th Min­is­te­r­i­al Meet­ing of the Coun­cil for Trade and Eco­nom­ic De­vel­op­ment (COT­ED) dur­ing a two-day vir­tu­al meet­ing last week.

COT­ED is a CARI­COM de­ci­sion-mak­ing body, which, among oth­er things, sup­ports the pro­duc­tion, qual­i­ty con­trol and mar­ket­ing of in­dus­tri­al and agri­cul­tur­al com­modi­ties, and over­sees the op­er­a­tions of the CARI­COM Sin­gle Mar­ket and Econ­o­my (CSME) that al­lows for the free move­ment of goods, ser­vices, labour and cap­i­tal.

“Among the ex­ter­nal trade re­la­tions mat­ters on the agen­da of the Min­is­te­r­i­al Meet­ing are  key mul­ti­lat­er­al de­vel­op­ments em­a­nat­ing from the 13th World Trade Or­gan­i­sa­tion (WTO) Min­is­te­r­i­al Con­fer­ence, and CARI­COM-Colom­bia con­clud­ing ne­go­ti­a­tions for ad­di­tion­al pref­er­en­tial mar­ket ac­cess, with­in the scope of the 1994 CARI­COM-Colom­bia Trade, Eco­nom­ic and Tech­ni­cal Co-op­er­a­tion Agree­ment,” the Sec­re­tari­at added.
