A 41-year-old man is in stable condition after being shot four times by police in Caroni on Friday night.
Police said around 9 pm officers responded to reports of a disturbance coming from a house at Hydraulic Road, Kelly Village, Caroni. However, when the officers arrived the man reportedly began hurling “missiles” out of his house.
As officers spoke to a 41-year-old woman, who also resides at the property, two officers approached the man’s house and advised him to stop throwing items onto the premises which was occupied by the woman.
Even though the officers identified themselves, the suspect continued to hurl missiles and glass bottles at the lawmen, before brandishing a cutlass.
As he rushed towards them with the cutlass, one officer pulled his police-issued firearm and discharged six shots in the direction of the suspect who fell to the ground.
He was taken by officers to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to the upper right side of the stomach, left thigh, left ankle and left calf.
The suspect was said to be in a stable condition at hospital yesterday. —Anna-Lisa Paul
