Po­lice have charged a 48-year-old woman with 91 counts of lar­ce­ny ser­vant and one count of em­bez­zle­ment, af­ter an in­ves­ti­ga­tion found that she al­leged­ly stole over $1.6 mil­lion from her em­ploy­er, Gable X Clean­ing So­lu­tions Lim­it­ed, of Chase Vil­lage, Ch­agua­nas.

Nir­mala Tam­bie, of Cunu­pia, who worked as a cashier, was charged with the of­fence af­ter po­lice searched her home and al­leged­ly found some of the mon­ey.

Po­lice said in a state­ment yes­ter­day that the of­fences were al­leged­ly com­mit­ted be­tween Jan­u­ary 1 and Sep­tem­ber 6, 2022.

Re­ports in­di­cate that the man­ag­er of Gable X Clean­ing So­lu­tions re­port­ed to po­lice that a to­tal of $1,615,777.16 went miss­ing from his com­pa­ny over that pe­ri­od of time.

The man­ag­er told po­lice that he made checks of his CCTV sys­tem and ob­served a woman em­ployed as a cashier at his busi­ness place al­leged­ly steal­ing a sum of mon­ey.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors went to the woman’s home on Thurs­day March 2, 2023, and dur­ing a search, they al­leged­ly found $618,283 in Trinidad and To­ba­go cur­ren­cy, a stamp and $18,496 in US cur­ren­cy.

Tam­bie was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find and sub­se­quent­ly charged.

She ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Adri­an Dar­manie on Thurs­day charged with the of­fence.

Tam­bie was grant­ed bail in the sum of $900,000 on the con­di­tion that she re­ports to the Cunu­pia Po­lice Sta­tion every Fri­day be­tween the hours of 6 am and 6 pm and that she re­mains in­doors every day be­tween the hours of 10 pm and 6 am.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to April 12.

Tam­bie was tak­en to the Gold­en Grove Women’s Prison af­ter she failed to post bail.

Po­lice say the in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to this mat­ter were con­duct­ed by CID of­fi­cers over a two-month pe­ri­od un­der the su­per­vi­sion of Snr Supt Smith and In­sp Phillip.

The search ex­er­cise was co­or­di­nat­ed by Snr Supt Smith, In­sp Phillip and su­per­vised by Sgt Wilkin­son and Cpl (Ag.) Ra­jku­mar, all of the South­ern Di­vi­sion.
