Tobago bandits used a blowtorch to attempt to break into the FCB ATM in Castara this morning, but despite burning through three doors, they failed to break open the vault and escaped without a cent.
Snr Supt Earl Elie told Guardian Media that the attempted ATM burglary happened before dawn around 3.20.
Police report said officers received the report around 3.55 am and officers from the Divisional Task Force responded immediately. When they arrived, they met with Amalgamated Security officers, who were already on the scene.
The security officers said they found the back door of the ATM building ajar and smelled something burning. When they checked, they saw that three locks had been torched and removed. Inside, there were signs the bandits tried to burn through the vault, but failed.
No suspects were found on the scene and no money was taken.
Police believe the men ran off before they could finish the job. Investigators are checking CCTV footage and asking anyone with information to come forward.
Elie confirmed that no one was injured and investigations are continuing.
