Cepep workers praised for keeping PoS clean after Carnival

Com­mu­ni­ty-Based En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion and En­hance­ment Pro­gramme (Cepep) CEO Kei­th Ed­dy is com­mend­ing his work­ers, say­ing they have once again de­liv­ered on their com­mit­ment to keep­ing Port-of-Spain clean, af­ter they en­sured that the city was free of any rem­nants of Car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tions by mid­night on Ash Wednes­day.

Part­ner­ing with the Na­tion­al Car­ni­val Com­mis­sion (NCC) and the Port-of-Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion, Cepep de­ployed 35 con­trac­tors and ap­prox­i­mate­ly 1,050 work­ers to main­tain the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah, the pa­rade route, and down­town Port-of-Spain through­out the Car­ni­val week­end. Clean-up ef­forts cov­ered key ar­eas, in­clud­ing St James, Mu­cu­rapo Road, St Clair Av­enue, Tra­garete Road, and Wood­brook.

Ed­dy, in a re­lease is­sued yes­ter­day, said he in­spect­ed the clean-up short­ly af­ter mid­night and com­mend­ed the ded­i­ca­tion of the team.

“Every year, this spec­tac­u­lar team pro­vides ex­tra­or­di­nary na­tion­al ser­vice by sac­ri­fic­ing their va­ca­tion while oth­ers re­lax or par­ty,” he said.

“They work through the ear­ly morn­ing, the blaz­ing mid­day sun, and the night to com­plete this mas­sive clean-up. We suc­ceed­ed in record time, and I am proud and grate­ful for this amaz­ing team,” Ed­dy said.

Dur­ing the clean-up, work­ers re­port­ed­ly col­lect­ed ap­prox­i­mate­ly 25,120 bags of garbage.

Mean­while, the Port-of-Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion al­so ac­knowl­edged the work of the Down­town Car­ni­val Com­mit­tee, chaired by coun­cil­lor Clint Bap­tiste, as well as the Port-of-Spain City Po­lice Ser­vice, the T&T Po­lice Ser­vice, the T&T Fire Ser­vice, and the RE­ACT Team for their roles in en­sur­ing safe­ty and or­der.

Per­form­ers such as Bla­ka Dan (Ul­ti­mate So­ca Cham­pi­on), Preedy (Freestyle Monarch), Iw­er George, and Yung Bred­da (Third place in Ca­lyp­so Monarch) con­tributed to the cel­e­bra­tion.

In a state­ment, the Of­fice of the May­or of Port-of-Spain thanked all those in­volved in mak­ing Down­town Car­ni­val and the sub­se­quent clean-up a suc­cess.

“Thank you to all who con­tributed to mak­ing this Down­town Car­ni­val and clean-up a shin­ing ex­am­ple of what can be achieved when we work to­geth­er.”
