A Mt D’or Road, Champs Fleurs man was granted bail after appearing in court on a charge of bribery related to the April 28, General Election.
Clyde Mansano, 46, appeared before Master Kimitria Gray on Monday (May 5). He was granted bail on his own recognisance and is scheduled to return to court on June 5, 2025.
According to a report yesterday from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Mansano was arrested on April 28 and charged on May 2 with bribery under Section 96(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01.
Police claimed that around 9.40 am on Monday, a police officer, acting on information received, intercepted a vehicle on Mt D’or Road.
The driver was allegedly observed offering and paying individuals between $300 and $400 to vote for a particular party.
The officer identified himself and informed the driver of his suspicion. Police said the man claimed he had been paid $800 to drive and that the funds he had were from a “sou sou.”
He then produced $30,000 from his pocket, which police said was later seized.
The TTPS said on April 30 that the Financial Investigations Branch (FIB) conducted a cash seizure operation, where $30,000 was confiscated from the man’s possession.
The investigation was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin, with assistance from Assistant Commissioners Richard Smith and Rishi Singh and Senior Supt Michael Pierre. It was supervised by Inspector Pierre, Legal Officer Sergeant Andre George, and Sgt Newton.
