Be­liev­ing the flock of cor­beaux was pick­ing at his dead cow, a cat­tle farmer got a hor­ri­fy­ing sur­prise on Sat­ur­day when he dis­cov­ered the birds were ac­tu­al­ly de­vour­ing a se­mi-de­com­posed, charred hu­man body in Bar­rack­pore.

Speak­ing to Guardian Me­dia on the con­di­tion of anonymi­ty, the farmer said he usu­al­ly goes to a riv­er to fish. Point­ing to his net as proof, the farmer said he no­ticed the flock of cor­beaux.

“I thought it was prob­a­bly one of my cows that dropped down and died, but on­ly when I went clos­er did I re­alise it was some­one’s body. It looked like they set the body on fire,” the farmer said.

He im­me­di­ate­ly left the grav­el road and went to the Bar­rack­pore Po­lice Sta­tion to no­ti­fy the au­thor­i­ties.

Of­fi­cers, led by Se­nior Supt Sood­een, vis­it­ed the scene and cor­doned off the area.

The re­mains were found near a pineap­ple field off Wil­son Road, Bar­rack­pore. Of­fi­cers scout­ed the area for clues.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors be­lieve the body may have been dumped in the re­mote area and then set ablaze. They are now ap­peal­ing to the pub­lic to as­sist in iden­ti­fy­ing the re­mains. Homi­cide of­fi­cers are con­tin­u­ing their in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
