Believing the flock of corbeaux was picking at his dead cow, a cattle farmer got a horrifying surprise on Saturday when he discovered the birds were actually devouring a semi-decomposed, charred human body in Barrackpore.
Speaking to Guardian Media on the condition of anonymity, the farmer said he usually goes to a river to fish. Pointing to his net as proof, the farmer said he noticed the flock of corbeaux.
“I thought it was probably one of my cows that dropped down and died, but only when I went closer did I realise it was someone’s body. It looked like they set the body on fire,” the farmer said.
He immediately left the gravel road and went to the Barrackpore Police Station to notify the authorities.
Officers, led by Senior Supt Soodeen, visited the scene and cordoned off the area.
The remains were found near a pineapple field off Wilson Road, Barrackpore. Officers scouted the area for clues.
Investigators believe the body may have been dumped in the remote area and then set ablaze. They are now appealing to the public to assist in identifying the remains. Homicide officers are continuing their investigations.
