A mother and son narrowly escaped death when they fled from their Enterprise, Chaguanas, home after the child accidentally set the place on fire on Sunday night.
Police said the woman’s five-year-old son was playing with a cigarette lighter in the bedroom of the home on Clarke Road, around 7.20 pm.
However, the boy ran to his mother and told her the house was on fire.
The woman took her son, quickly fled the house, and called the fire service. Fire officers visited the scene and extinguished the blaze.
The police reported that the blaze caused damage to the kitchen and bedroom.
No one was injured. However, two mattresses, a stove, a fridge, cupboards, and the roof in the kitchen were partially burnt. Police and fire officers are continuing enquiries.
