Trinidad and Tobago today announced a TT$94 million aid grant from China, as Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar began meetings in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
The grant, valued at RMB 100 million, falls under an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the two countries and will fund jointly approved projects in Trinidad and Tobago. It was discussed during a September 18 meeting between Persad-Bissessar and Chinese Ambassador Ren Hongyan at the Diplomatic Centre.
On September 25, Foreign Affairs Minister Sean Sobers also met China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Miao Deyu in New York, where they discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Later today, Persad-Bissessar is scheduled to meet the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, and the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
