Trinidad and To­ba­go and Chi­na will be mark­ing 50 years of diplo­mat­ic re­la­tions with sev­er­al ac­tiv­i­ties dur­ing 2024 to com­mem­o­rate the mile­stone, and reaf­firm their strong friend­ship.

That’s ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the Min­istry of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs, which notes that de­tails are still be­ing ironed out be­tween both coun­tries as to what form the cel­e­bra­tions should take.

The Min­istry re­ports that on Mon­day (Jan­u­ary 22, 2024), For­eign Min­is­ter Dr. Amery Browne met with His Ex­cel­len­cy Fang Qiu, Am­bas­sador of the Peo­ple’s Re­pub­lic of Chi­na to T&T, to dis­cuss po­ten­tial events to mark the 50th An­niver­sary of the es­tab­lish­ment of diplo­mat­ic re­la­tions be­tween both coun­tries, which will be on June 20, 2024.

Min­is­ter Browne and Am­bas­sador Fang agreed that events would be held through­out the year.

Dur­ing the meet­ing, Min­is­ter Browne took the op­por­tu­ni­ty to re­it­er­ate this coun­try’s long­stand­ing com­mit­ment to a One Chi­na Pol­i­cy, which he said, “has framed our ex­cel­lent and pro­duc­tive re­la­tions with the Peo­ple's Re­pub­lic of Chi­na.”

At the open­ing of the Phoenix Park In­dus­tri­al Es­tate on Jan­u­ary 10, Prime Min­is­ter Dr. Kei­th Row­ley had re­stat­ed and clear­ly ar­tic­u­lat­ed T&T’s po­si­tion on the mat­ter.

In ad­di­tion, both Min­is­ter Browne and Am­bas­sador Fang com­mit­ted to work­ing to­geth­er to ad­vance im­por­tant is­sues on the Chi­na-T&T bi­lat­er­al agen­da.
