New fees for applications and approvals for citizenship, registration, and naturalisation in Trinidad and Tobago will take effect from January 1, 2026, following amendments to the Citizenship of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Regulations.
The regulations, which revoke and replace the Second Schedule, set fees ranging from $50 to $200 for applications, with additional approval charges between $400 and $1,800 depending on the category. Citizens of CARICOM and Commonwealth countries will pay lower fees in certain cases.
Under the revised schedule, the grant of a Certificate of Citizenship to a minor under Section 5 attracts an application fee of $100, with a further $500 payable if the application is approved.
For the grant of a Certificate of Registration to a minor under Section 8, applicants must pay $100 on application and an additional $500 on approval.
Adults applying for a Certificate of Registration under Section 7 will pay different amounts depending on their status. Citizens of Caribbean Common Market countries will pay $50 on application and a further $800 if the certificate is granted. Persons who are not citizens of Caricom countries will pay $100 on application and $1,000 upon approval.
Applications for a Certificate of Citizenship under Section 11(2) carry a $100 application fee, with a further $1,000 payable if approved.
Naturalisation fees under Section 12 also have been revised. Citizens of Commonwealth countries will pay $200 on application and $1,600 on approval. Citizens of non-Commonwealth countries will pay $200 on application and $1,800 if approved.
In cases of doubt, an application for a Certificate of Citizenship will cost $100, with a further $400 payable if the application is granted.
Administrative fees also are specified. Witnessing the signing of an application or declaration will cost $100, as will administering the Oath of Allegiance.
Where a declaration is made before a Judge, Justice of the Peace or Public Officer, the fee will be collected by stamps. Where it is made before a Commissioner of Affidavits appointed under the Commissioner of Affidavits Act, the fee will be paid to that Commissioner.
The fee for supplying an authenticated copy of any notice, certificate, order, declaration or entry granted or made under the Act is set at $100. Renunciation of citizenship will cost $200.
The regulations were signed by Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander on December 29, 2025.
