Coast Guard, Air Guard search for missing Moruga men

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Coast Guard with the as­sis­tance of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Air Guard says that they have con­duct­ed search­es in the South Coast and the Gulf of Paria with no sight­ing of the miss­ing ves­sel or the per­sons. They are al­so li­ais­ing with the Venezue­lan au­thor­i­ties on the sit­u­a­tion. De­tails fol­low in this press re­lease.

On Mon­day, 04 Oc­to­ber, 2021, the Trinidad and To­ba­go Coast Guard re­ceived re­ports in­di­cat­ing that three (3) per­sons left Moru­ga to go fish­ing, on Tues­day, 28 Sep­tem­ber, 2021 and had not re­turned. Up­on re­ceiv­ing the re­port, the Trinidad and To­ba­go Coast Guard com­menced a Search and Res­cue op­er­a­tion with the as­sis­tance of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Air Guard. Thus far search­es have been con­duct­ed of the South Coast of Trinidad and in the Gulf of Paria with no sight­ing of the miss­ing ves­sel or the per­sons. The Trinidad and To­ba­go Coast Guard con­tin­ues to mon­i­tor the ar­eas un­der na­tion­al ju­ris­dic­tion and has been li­ais­ing with Venezue­lan au­thor­i­ties on the sit­u­a­tion.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Coast Guard re­minds ves­sel own­ers and sea­far­ers to en­sure that they pro­vide fam­i­ly mem­bers with ac­cu­rate in­for­ma­tion such as their in­tend­ed des­ti­na­tion, ves­sel reg­is­tra­tion num­ber, de­scrip­tion of ves­sel hull and en­gines, as well as sched­uled re­turn time. This in­for­ma­tion is vi­tal in cas­es of emer­gency and can aid the Trinidad and To­ba­go Coast Guard in suc­cess­ful­ly con­duct­ing Search and Res­cue op­er­a­tions when called up­on.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Coast Guard con­tin­ues to pro­vide bor­der se­cu­ri­ty and oth­er ser­vices in the face of the threat of COVID-19 in or­der to main­tain the safe­ty and se­cu­ri­ty of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go through the con­duct of mar­itime se­cu­ri­ty and safe­ty pa­trols with­in our area of op­er­a­tions.
