Those liv­ing and work­ing in North­ern and East­ern ex­posed coastal ar­eas of Trinidad and To­ba­go will have to be ex­tra vig­i­lant over the next cou­ple of days while a YEL­LOW lev­el Haz­ardous Seas Alert re­mains in ef­fect.

Ac­cord­ing to the lat­est ad­vi­so­ry from the Trinidad and To­ba­go Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Ser­vice (TTMS), all ma­rine in­ter­ests should mon­i­tor near-shore and coastal sea con­di­tions and ex­er­cise cau­tion along af­fect­ed ar­eas. 

“Avoid ma­rine ac­tiv­i­ties,” the Met Ser­vice urges.

The Alert, which kicked in at 12:00 am to­day, will re­main in ef­fect un­til Tues­day.

The Met Ser­vice ex­plains:

“Norther­ly long pe­ri­od swells have been ob­served and are ex­pect­ed to con­tin­ue af­fect­ing the North­ern and East­ern ex­posed coastal ar­eas of both Trinidad and To­ba­go. These con­di­tions are ex­pect­ed to per­sist un­til Tues­day 14th March 2023. Bat­ter­ing waves will like­ly con­tin­ue at coastal re­gions as a re­sult of these swells and the sit­u­a­tion can be ex­ac­er­bat­ed dur­ing high tides.”
