Af­ter al­most five years, the long-await­ed pub­lic swim­ming pool at Co­coyea Vil­lage, San Fer­nan­do has been re­opened.

San Fer­nan­do East MP and Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Fi­nance Bri­an Man­ning gave brief re­marks be­fore tour­ing the fa­cil­i­ty with oth­er of­fi­cials. The fa­cil­i­ty was re­opened at a cost of $1,137,000.

Man­ning ex­plained that the de­lays were a re­sult of is­sues with the pumps and al­gae while the pan­dem­ic al­so caused chal­lenges.

Re­flect­ing that the pool was of­fi­cial­ly opened in 2007 by his fa­ther late prime min­is­ter Patrick Man­ning who was al­so the MP for the San Fer­nan­do East con­stituen­cy, he said he was elat­ed to see his fa­ther’s project back up and run­ning. The pool was closed in 2018. Re­pairs and re­fur­bish­ment works were done in two phas­es and be­gan in June 2002 and were com­plet­ed on Jan­u­ary 6. Mem­bers of the pub­lic have been us­ing the pool since Mon­day free of charge.
