A 41-year-old man who fooled five people into giving him $15,000 by claiming he could secure Housing Development Corporation (HDC) houses for them has been jailed four 48 months.
Ainsley Campbell, also known as Dale Hamilton, 41, of Sixth Company Circular Road, Indian Walk, Moruga, pretended he was an HDC agent and was in a position to deliver houses.
He collected the money between February 8 and March 2.
The victims made a report at the Barrackpore Police Station and Sgt Harold Ishmael and Cpl Neil Nanan conducted enquiries and a sting operation was conducted resulting Campbell’s arrest.
He was positively identified in an identification parade and charged by Sgt Ishmael with five counts of obtaining money by false pretences. Campbell made a virtual appearance in the Princes Town Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty before Senior Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine.
He was sentenced to 24 months in jail on four charges and 48 months on the other charge.
The sentences were ordered to run concurrently, so therefore he will serve 48 months.
