RHONDOR DOWLAT-ROSTANT
A 31-year-old construction worker was gunned down on Monday night just mere seconds after leaving the presence of his eight-year-old niece and another female relative.
The deceased was identified as Roger ‘Mouth’ Cox of LP 117 Cumuto Main Road, Cumuto.
According to a police report, Cox was in the company of a female relative and her eight-year-old daughter at John Singh shop at 7:15 pm purchasing items when he told his sister that he was going to check on a friend who lives approximately 150 feet away from the shop.
Cox’s relative told police that a few seconds after Cox left them she heard something like fireworks.
She said when she looked in the direction that it came from she saw a man dressed in a white T-shirt and dark-coloured three-quarter pants and facemask run across the road in the vicinity of an open lot between two churches.
The man, she said, was holding a silver gun in his right hand while running away.
The woman said she then walked in the direction that Cox went and saw his slippers on the road. She continued to walk a little further and saw him unresponsive on a white Hilux.
The driver of the Hilux assisted Cox and took him to the Arima Health Facility for medical treatment.
However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police are yet to determine the motive for Cox’s murder.
