Cop charged with sexual assault of minor

A po­lice of­fi­cer with three years ser­vice, at­tached to the To­ba­go Di­vi­sion ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly be­fore a Scar­bor­ough Mag­is­trate on Fri­day, charged with sex­u­al pen­e­tra­tion of a 15-year-old girl.

Ed­win Den­nis 24, was called to an­swer for five counts of sex­u­al pen­e­tra­tion of a child who lives on the north­ern side of the is­land. The in­ci­dent al­leged­ly oc­curred be­tween 2016 and 2018. Charges were laid fol­low­ing ad­vice re­ceived from the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, Roger Gas­pard, SC, on Thurs­day.

Den­nis was not called up­on to plea, as the charges were laid in­dictably.

The mat­ter was heard be­fore Mag­is­trate Sherene Mur­ray-Bai­ley. He was grant­ed bail in the sum of $175,000 and is sched­uled to reap­pear in court on Sep­tem­ber 24, 2020.

W/Sgt (Ag) Cavelle Mills-Wal­ters of the To­ba­go Di­vi­sion Child Pro­tec­tion Unit (CPU) laid the charges, fol­low­ing a re­port made to of­fi­cers sur­round­ing al­leged sex­u­al abuse over an ex­tend­ed pe­ri­od of time.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion was su­per­vised by W/Supt (Ag) George, ASP Now­butt, and Sgt Miller.
