COP28 continued on Saturday with world leaders taking the podium of the plenary to deliver their national addresses. On the local front, there was major news coming out of Dubai.
- ANSA McAL CEO, Mr. Anthony Sabga III flew into Dubai to sign an MOU with Kenesjay Green Limited which sets the stage for private sector acceleration of green energy projects in the Caribbean. Mr. Sabga signalled the conglomerate's intention to lead the Caribbean region into a greener future.
- In some major international developments, the United States has joined the Powering Past Coal Alliance by committing to close all its coal-fired power plants, in a move hailed at Cop28 as “huge news” that puts pressure on the world’s biggest burner of coal, China. Vice president Kamala Harris also announced a significant $3bn pledge to the Green Climate Fund.
- The United Nation's top doctor, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has compared burning fossil fuels to smoking cigarettes.
